Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cellular Backup? Do I need it?

Cellular Backup is a long range cellular radio that is installed in your alarm control panel. It sends signals wirelessly to the monitoring station if a phone line has been cut or can be used to transmit signals to the monitoring station if a home does not have traditional phone service. Cellular Backup insures the safest connection to the monitoring station currently available. You will always have connectivity with the monitoring station.

Is your service compatible with VOIP systems like Brighthouse Digital Phone and Vonage?

While alarm systems can work using VOIP, it is not recommended.  The Underwriters Laboratories have not approved it as a safe and secure form of communication for your alarm. If your house loses power or internet connectivity and your alarm was triggered, it would not send a signal to the monitoring station.

Do I need wireless system or a hardwired system?

If your house has multiple levels or does not have attic space, you will need a wireless system. If the house is one level and has sufficient attic access, a hardwired system can be installed.

What if the power to my home were to go off? Will my system continue to work?

Yes! Your Sentinel Security alarm system is equipped with a battery backup, so your protection will not be interrupted after a power failure. It's a good idea to check the batteries in your system regularly.

I understand that my system should be tested regularly. How do I test my system?

You should test your system at least once a month to make sure that it is in good working order. Call 1- 800-432-1429, and tell our customer service representative that you would like to test your system. We will be more than happy to walk you through the testing process.
